Many of you planned to attend the Tybee Island City Council meeting on 7/9 for the public hearing on the proposed Short Term Rental (STR) ordinance. Unfortunately, “the required legal advertisement was not published for the full required time” before the meeting, so the public hearing could not legally be held.

At this time, it’s unclear whether this was a City staff error OR a Savannah Morning News & SavannahNow.com publishing error. I think it’s fair to say that people on ALL sides of this issue are frustrated by what happened.

The public hearing on the proposed STR ordinance, along with the other public hearings scheduled for tonight, has been rescheduled for August 13, 2026. The legal advertisements will be properly published before that meeting.

For those attending in person or watching from home tonight, the City Council will not hold the public hearing, discuss, or vote on the proposed STR ordinance because the required public notice was not completed in time. I’ll continue to share updates as more information becomes available regarding what caused the advertising issue and any additional developments.
